The boxing ring becomes a stage for dancers who take turns in fighting and reconciling – all to the live music of the Debussy Quartet. In each round the violins drive the dancers’ steps, from airy capoeira to rhythmic hip-hop. Breathtaking! Following on from the popular success of Boxe Boxe (performed to an audience of 130,000 spectators), Mourad Merzouki once again dons his boxing gloves to create a universe in which poetry and humour, classic music and Brazilian dance all join together.
Can one find refuge in solitude? Kindly old Monsieur X appears to live all by himself, enjoying his well-earned retirement in his apartment. But he is not as lonely as it seems. His furniture, utensils and memorabilia are talking to him; but they are not always friendly. Monsieur X has his head in the clouds, and reality and dream intertwine. This play is without words, but is all the more charming on that account, featuring as it does expressive body language à la Charlie Chaplin. Actor Pierre Richard beautifully takes the spectators on a journey into the fabulous world of Monsieur X.

Following the success of its first edition in 2018, Independent Little Lies – ILL will present its second festival Queer Little Lies on November 12 – 14th at the Escher Theater. Performances, movies, round-tables, workshops, a masterclass and a party to round it all up: on three days, artists from Luxembourg and abroad will queer your understandings of bodies, sexuality and desire. Be ready to challenge the norms!
PROGRAMME 13.11 :
20:00 Performance m.a.d. -mutually affirmed deviance m.a.d. explores the collective body of four performers and their deviance from the norm. Together they venture a shared vulnerability and, strengthened by this newfound unity, they set out to disrupt the vicious cycle of discrimination, hatred and violence. Through movement and sound the four protagonists attempt to transform the martial meaning of m.a.d. (“mutually assured destruction”) into “mutually affirmed deviance” – into a daring “yes!” in celebration of the body and of their common breakout from its alienating socializations. Talk with the artists after the performance.
The circle is one of the elementary forms that surround us in our daily lives. From the planets orbiting the sun to a rain drop forming ripples on the water to the symbol of unity: the circle represents perfection and aesthetic indulgence. The Via Verde company takes the spectators on a journey to discover fantasy, music and dance, and appeals to all the senses: puppets turn in loops, bodies draw circles in the space around them, and music and light carry the spectators into a universe of geometric forms and sensuality.
The Ensemble à Plectre Municipal d’Esch/Alzette supports the creation of contemporary music with great panache. This concert is the highlight of the celebrations marking the ensemble’s 100 years of existence and follows on from an international composition competition for plucked string orchestra. A first for Luxembourg! The programme honours young artists whose compositions, performed with great virtuosity and expressivity, stretch the limits of the mandolin and the guitar. The best creations are rewarded by an international jury during the evening.
A man wearing a suit and holding a cane. A white room and two doors that cannot be opened. Pierric Tenthorey, crowned world champion of magic in 2015, is stuck, and hilariously tries again and again to escape from this prison. Following the traditions set by Charlie Chaplin and Mr. Bean, Pierric’s pantomime is mixed with magic tricks and body illusions that provoke uncontrollable laughter. This master of comedy and slapstick is not to be missed.
Back to the roots. Choreographer Kader Attou returns to the origins of hip-hop, and the result is an acrobatic celebration of the genre. Eleven dancers perform different facets of the former underground culture and show how the body can bend to different beats: from breakdance to Smurf, electric boogie to popping. This highly successful show brings back all the highlights of the former street culture.
